Web Developer

Ryan is not just a composer and musician, but also a web developer who dislikes piña coladas and getting caught in the rain. He completed the Technical Web Design program at BCIT in 2016 and quite enjoys coding websites. Interestingly, it is his music background that lead Ryan to explore web development.

Starting back in 1999 using good old Netscape Composer (anyone remember that old chestnut?) he built a website for SARV, his first a cappella quartet. Ryan continued this tradition with multiple groups as the years continued, progressing through a variety different site-building programs. This culminated in Ryan’s desire to have a personal website to share recordings of compositions etc. as he was nearing the end of his BMus degree.

Ryan eventually turned to WordPress after learning that Apple would be discontinuing iWeb. This lead to discovery after discovery of what was possible with WordPress, if one only knew how to write the code to implement it. Ryan became hooked and had to learn more, so he enrolled at BCIT in 2015.

As a web developer, Ryan focuses on building sites using WordPress because he really likes how it enables him to create solutions for the site’s client that is easy for them to use to continue to maintain and add content to their site. Check out his portfolio below. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or communications of any kind, please contact Ryan.

Chamber Musicians of Kamloops

The Chamber Musicians of Kamloops had an out-dated site, and needed an upgrade that had a more modern look and feel and functioned properly on mobile devices. I collaborated with Brooklyn Wood for the design concept, and built a site that better enables them to advertise their concerts, showcase their members’ ensembles, and serve as a resource for people to learn more about the organization. The site features a custom post type for concerts, specially designed to ensure search engines (Google) immediately know that each concert’s unique page is a concert listing, and store the information accordingly to display in relevant search results.

Slow No Tempo A cappella Quartet

This a cappella quartet (that Ryan happens to be a member of) needed a site to list their public performances, introduce their members, and showcase recordings of them singing. The site features a custom post type for performances specifically designed with embedded schema information so that search engines immediately understand that each page is describing an event.

Kamloops Brandenburg Orchestra

The Kamloops Brandenburg Orchestra needed a website to advertise their upcoming concerts and help their audience learn more about the ensemble, it’s music director, and musicians. The site features a custom post type for events specifically designed with embedded schema information so that search engines immediately understand that each page is describing an event, and a password-protected Musicians Only page.
